The Rurtahlbahn is privat regional railway company. It operates dayly trains to Jülich/Linnich and to Untermaubach/Heimbach. The trains is used by workers en students but also by many tourist since there are many touristic attractions in the Eifel region. The Dürener Dampfbahn AG (Steamtrain company of Düren) started its operations in 1893. In 1903 the first 'Rurtalbahn'drove from Düren to Heimbach. In the seventies the national railwaycompany (Bundesbahn) threatened to close the lines. After long and tough negotiations the Dürener Kreisbahn took over inm July 1992. It was the first railway in Germany that moved fro the Bundesbahn to a regional organisation.
